You would think the name “Cotton to the Core” would mean cotton yarn, right?
I wanted to make a decorative scarf for one of my girls (who, BTW, are actually women.) So I bought some cotton yarn that looked to be somewhere between your typical DK and worsted weights. At least, I thought it was cotton. And I thought it was thinner than typical worsted.
You can check out the pattern I chose here: Rustic Lace Scarf. As you can see, I pinned it. I chose this pattern for it’s appearance — I like it better than several other scarfs I looked at. As a bonus, it turns out to be really easy and the kind of thing that works up quickly.
Unfortunately, the “Cotton to the Core” yarn is 60% cotton, 40% acrylic. And as soon as I pulled some yarn from the skein, it puffed up to a regular worsted weight. So not right for the pattern. I did try anyway, with a modified pattern, but it also turns out to be really difficult to work with. It’s hard to get a photo with enough detail to to show it, but this yarn is basically a very fine netting, stuffed with the yarn material. The netting just seemed to catch on everything.

I do love the pattern, and I’m no planning the scarf for a Christmas gift. Not sure what yarn I’ll get, and likely after this attempt I’ll end up changing the pattern some.
